Career

 

From Greensboro, North Carolina, Karla Munden is a talented Chief Audit Executive, a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), and Certified Financial Services Auditor (CFSA) with Qualification in Internal Audit Leadership (QIAL) and Certification in Control Self-Assessment (CCSA). She has extensive experience in Leadership, Employee Engagement, Executive Board Relationships, and Process Improvement. Across her career, Karla has demonstrated a commitment to continuous improvement and enhanced efficacy based on the latest innovation, technology, and partnerships forged with audit teams, executive stakeholders, and the Board of Directors. 

Presently, Karla Munden is a Senior Vice President and Chief Audit Executive with Lincoln Financial Group, where she’s been for nearly 15 years. Before her current role, she was the AVP and Audit Director for Lincoln Financial Group. She has also worked in auditing for Nationwide Insurance as an Audit Consultant, an Audit Manager, and the Internal Audits Director. Throughout her career, Karla has established expertise in several areas, including contract development and negotiations, internal audit management, strategic business planning, budget administration and management, continuous improvement, cost reduction and avoidance, process redesign and change management, financial services, and team building and leadership. Her ability to forge strong relationships with partnerships as well as internally across matrixed organizational levels is unrivaled.

Volunteering and Background

 

Alongside her impressive career experience, Karla Munden is also a passionate volunteer with extensive experience. She spent two years with the North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University on the Board of Visitors, two years with Elon University with the Accounting and Advisory Board of the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business, and three years with the Institute of Internal Auditors, Inc. on the Exam Development Committee.

Karla has also served with The Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro – as both a Board Member and the Audit Committee Chair – and she was a member of both the Junior League of Greensboro and the Junior League of Cleveland. She has also been a board member with the YWCA Greensboro and Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro.

Presently, Karla Munden maintains an active membership with a few organizations:

Karla Munden earned her first degree at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, where she graduated with her Bachelor’s of Business Administration with a focus in Accounting. Later, she returned to academia when she enrolled at the University of Phoenix, graduating with her Master’s in Business Administration. Additionally, Karla holds a certificate in cyber-risk oversight from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She has her Qualification in Internal Audit Leadership (QIAL), her Certification in Control Self-Assessment (CSSA), and her Certification in Risk Management Assurance (CRMA) from the Institute of Internal Auditors Inc. Karla is also a Certified Financial Services Auditor (CFSA) through the Institute of Internal Auditors Inc., a Certified Fraud Examiner with the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE), a Fellow of the Life Management Institute, and a Certified Internal Auditor.
